What are the proto-oncogenes?

The cellular homologs of viral oncogenes are called proto-oncogenes or sometimes normal cellular oncogens, denoted c-one. The cellular homolog of v-src is thefore c-src. As a result, the cellular oncogenes show considerable conservation in structure.
