The morphological types of metaphase chromosomes

On the basis of centromere location cytologists recognize four major types of chromosomes that is clear in metaphase as-
(a) metacentric- centromere central, arms of equal or essentially equal lengths.
(b) submetacentric- centromere submedian giving one longer and one shorter arm.
(c) acrocentric- centromere very near one end, arms very unequal in length.
(d) telocentric- centromere terminal, only one chromosomal arm is observed.
