What are Zoogeography realms?

Depending on the likeness of the fauna, the world has been separated into six main faunal regions. These are known as zoogeographical realms. Formation of such realms emphasizes two factors such as plate tectonics and changing pattern of distribution of species. Six divisions of faunal regions was changing pattern of distribution of species. Six divisions of faunal regions was proposed by Sclater in 1875. Sclater regions were later on confirmed by Wallace in 1876. The regions are-

1. Palaearctic

2. Ethiopian

3. Oriental

4. Australian

5. Nearctic

6. Neotropical
