Diagnostic features of Protozoans
- Primarily microscopic animals.
- Unicellular performing all metabolic functions inside a single cell.
- Elongated round or oval in shape excepting Amoeba.
- Locomotory organ- Pseudopodia, cilia or flagella. In a few cases contraction of protoplasm aids in locomotion.
- Reproduction mainly by fission. Sexual reproduction occurs in some cases, e.g. Plasmodium.
