A bioindicator is a plant or animal species that is known to be particularly tolerant or sensitive to pollution. The presence of the species can be used as a tool to indicate polluted conditions of the particular area. Tubificid worms are an example of pollution-tolerant indicator organisms specially in a river polluted by waste water discharge.
